Battleship Texas And San Jacinto Monument & Museum

San jacinto memorial park, battle san jacinto monument

In 1836 Texas fought with Mexico and won in the San Jacinto Battleground. In 1936 civic leaders built tall towering Obeli, to celebrate the victory. The base of the monument contains a small museum relating Texas history and Mexican war pictures by Sam Chambrelain. A small auditorium is there to portrait the battle documentary for 35 minutes. At the top of the 500 feet tall tower is the observation room which gives a good view of Houston port. The USS Texas from where the Texans began to advance is just across the monument. The large battleships built in 1914 are vulnerable since the technology of warships was developed later. The Navy modernized the ship between the wars with topedo defenses and antiaircraft but it survived World War II after being used in pacific and Atlantic theatres. The people can climb the ship and see the navigation bridge, crew’s quarters, and engine room.
